Sunrisers to Meet Super Kings in SA20 2024’s First Match

SA20 2024: Joburg Super Kings Retained Players List

Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the reigning champions, are set to welcome the Joburg Super Kings for the SA20’s 2024 inaugural match. This second edition of the tournament is slated to begin in Gqeberha on January 10, culminating in the grand finale on February 10. Intriguingly, this final week overlaps with South Africa’s Test series against New Zealand, set to start on February 4.

The season’s first week assigns each squad with a home game, with a total of 34 matches spread out over South Africa’s six iconic venues. Concluding the opening weekend, Wanderers Stadium will showcase a two-game special: first, Super Kings taking on MI Cape Town, followed by Durban Super Giants challenging the Sunrisers.

Shifting gears from its inaugural season, the SA20 has phased out semi-finals. Instead, it has embraced IPL-inspired Playoffs – incorporating two Qualifiers and an Eliminator – in the post-season segment.

This season’s midweek encounters are programmed for a 17:30 local kick-off, with Sunday games set for a brisker 15:30 start. Two-game specials are reserved exclusively for Saturdays.

As we approach the Season 2 auction, excitement grows, and it’s our pleasure to unveil the match line-up,” proclaimed League Commissioner, Graeme Smith, on Tuesday (August 15). “We’re gearing up for an action-filled first week that promises to engage fans nationwide.

Our aim is clear: to allow families, buddies, and newcomers to indulge in as many matches as feasible, with midweek games at 17:30 and weekends primed for enjoyable summer twilight spectacles.

An auction to decide player allocations ahead of the season is marked for September 27.
