Marcus Rashford’s future has become one of the biggest talking points ahead of the summer transfer window, with several clubs now monitoring the Manchester United forward.
The England international spent the season on loan at Barcelona and played a major role in the club’s title winning campaign under Hansi Flick. Rashford produced 14 goals and 14 assists in 48 matches and quickly became an important figure in the squad.
Despite his impact in Spain, Barcelona have still not activated the £26 million clause that would secure him permanently from Manchester United.
Real Madrid Could Enter the Race
Reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid may attempt to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding Rashford’s situation.
Jose Mourinho is strongly linked with the Madrid job and is believed to be interested in working with Rashford again after their previous time together at Old Trafford.
According to Spanish outlets, the forward is viewed as a strong attacking option who could also weaken Barcelona if a deal collapses between the Catalan club and United.
For now, Madrid can only move forward if Barcelona fail to complete the transfer before the agreed deadline.
Barcelona Still Want to Keep Him
Rashford has made it clear that he wants to continue his career at Barcelona beyond this season.
The Spanish champions reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the player over a long term contract, although negotiations with Manchester United remain unresolved.
United are insisting on the original £26 million price, while Barcelona are trying to reduce the cost or arrange another loan move.
Financial pressure inside the club may also force Barcelona to restructure the contract terms. Reports claim Rashford is prepared to accept a major wage reduction compared to his current Manchester United salary.
Earlier in the season, the striker openly admitted he was enjoying life in Spain and described Barcelona as one of football’s most historic clubs.
Manchester United Have Not Closed the Door
A return to Old Trafford also remains possible after Ruben Amorim’s exit earlier this year.
Rashford struggled for opportunities under the former United manager and eventually left on loan during the winter transfer window. However, the coaching change has reopened discussions about his future.
Current caretaker boss Michael Carrick recently avoided ruling out the possibility of Rashford returning to the squad next season.
Carrick admitted decisions still need to be made but stressed that no final outcome has been agreed yet.
Swap Deal Rumours Begin to Grow
Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam believes Rashford could even become part of a blockbuster exchange involving AC Milan star Rafael Leao.
United continue to be linked with the Portuguese winger, whose release clause stands at around £131 million.
Stam suggested both clubs could benefit from a direct swap, praising Leao’s attacking quality while hinting Rashford may also need a fresh challenge away from England.
