Barcelona still open to signing Rashford despite Gordon move

Marcus Rashford could still return to Barcelona next season even after the Spanish champions agreed a major transfer deal for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon.

Reports in England suggest Barcelona continue to view the Manchester United forward as a possible option for the upcoming campaign.

Gordon signing does not end Rashford interest

Barcelona are expected to complete the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle in a deal worth around £69 million.

However, sources indicate the move does not automatically close the door on Rashford returning to Camp Nou.

The Catalan club still have until 15 June to activate their £26 million option to buy the England international permanently after his successful loan spell.

Barcelona are also believed to be exploring another temporary loan arrangement if a permanent agreement cannot be reached with Manchester United.

Manchester United refuse to lower asking price

United reportedly remain firm on their valuation of Rashford and are unwilling to renegotiate the previously agreed transfer fee.

The English club believe the forward could attract even larger offers from elsewhere, especially if he performs strongly for England at the upcoming World Cup.

Despite uncertainty surrounding negotiations, expectations inside Old Trafford are that Rashford has likely already played his final match for Manchester United.

Julian Alvarez now becomes Barcelona priority

While Rashford remains an option, Barcelona are now focusing heavily on a possible move for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez.

The Argentine forward is interested in joining the club, although Atletico are demanding a massive fee believed to be close to £130 million.

According to reports from Spain, Barcelona already discussed a proposal involving cash plus Ferran Torres, but Atletico rejected the idea.

The club are expected to submit another official offer soon after finalising the Gordon transfer.

Rashford impressed during loan spell

Rashford enjoyed an impressive campaign at Barcelona after arriving on loan from Manchester United.

The forward contributed 28 goals and assists in all competitions and helped the club regain the LaLiga title from Real Madrid.

His performances strengthened support inside Barcelona for another deal, even as the club continues working on several major transfers this summer.

Barcelona preparing ambitious rebuild

After winning LaLiga, Barcelona now have greater financial flexibility for the transfer market.

The club’s priorities include signing a winger, a striker and a central defender as they prepare for another season competing for domestic and European trophies.

Whether Rashford ultimately stays part of those plans could depend on the outcome of the club’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez.
