French government plans large budget for the event
The French government has announced that it will spend €250 million on hosting the Esports World Cup 2026. The budget will cover tournaments across CS 2, Dota 2 and many other esports titles.
The amount is expected to be used for venue preparation, accommodation for teams and players, logistics, infrastructure and other costs linked to running a large international esports event in Paris.
According to the plan, France expects the tournament to bring in around €600 million. That money is projected to come from tourism, hotels, local business activity, jobs connected to the event and wider spending around the competition.
Paris replaces Saudi Arabia as host city
Esports World Cup 2026 was moved from Saudi Arabia to France because of tensions in the Middle East. The change means that Paris will become the main host city for one of the biggest esports events of the year.
The move also changes the travel requirements for teams. Players and staff will need Schengen visas to attend the tournament in France. This could create problems for competitors from some countries if they are unable to receive documents in time.
Several teams have already faced similar issues in 2026, including Falcons and BetBoom Team. Because of that, visa access may become one of the main organisational topics before the event begins.
Prize pool reaches $75 million
Esports World Cup 2026 will take place in Paris from July 6 to August 23. The event will feature more than twenty esports disciplines, making it one of the largest competitions on the calendar.
The total prize pool will be $75 million. From that amount, $30 million will go directly to clubs that earn the most points through strong results across different tournaments.
This format gives organisations an extra reason to perform well in several games, not only in one discipline. It also makes the club ranking one of the central parts of the event.
France expects wider benefits from the tournament
For France, hosting the Esports World Cup is not only about competition. The government is treating the event as a chance to attract visitors, fill hotels and support businesses connected to travel, media and entertainment.
The tournament could also give Paris a stronger position in the global esports scene. With a long schedule, a large prize pool and many disciplines, EWC 2026 is expected to bring major attention to the city throughout the summer.
