Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Marc Guehi has hit a major roadblock, with Crystal Palace rejecting a £70 million offer for the highly-rated England defender. Guehi, who has been a key figure for the Eagles this season, is expected to stay at Selhurst Park for the remainder of the current campaign.
Tottenham’s Frustrating Transfer Window
This setback adds to Tottenham’s growing frustration in the January transfer market. Spurs have also seen attempts to secure other defensive targets, including Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel and AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori, both of whom have reportedly turned down the opportunity to join the North London club. With defensive reinforcements high on their priority list, Spurs had hoped to bolster their squad before the transfer window closes.
Summer Move Still Possible for Guehi
Despite this rejection, the future could still hold a move for Guehi, as the defender is entering the final year of his contract with Palace. Both Tottenham and Newcastle United are expected to rekindle their interest in the summer when Guehi’s availability becomes more plausible.
Chelsea, who had previously shown interest in re-signing Guehi, opted to bring back Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Palace instead.
