Rashford Joins Aston Villa on Deadline Day
Marcus Rashford made his debut for Aston Villa after completing a late loan move from Manchester United in the January transfer window. The England international struggled for game time under new United boss Rúben Amorim, who left him out of the squad for most matches following their 2-1 win over Manchester City in December.
With his training performances reportedly below standard, Amorim even claimed he’d rather select goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital over the 27-year-old forward. As a result, Rashford sought a new challenge, and Aston Villa secured his services on loan with a £40m option to buy in the summer.
Rashford Impresses in FA Cup Debut
The forward made his first appearance for Unai Emery’s side in the FA Cup fourth-round clash against Tottenham, coming on as a substitute in the 67th minute. Villa won 2-1, and Rashford showed glimpses of his quality, making lively runs and even pulling off a nutmeg.
Lineker and Shearer React to Rashford’s Performance
Speaking on The Rest Is Football Podcast, Gary Lineker praised Rashford’s performance:
“I thought Rashford looked lively. He had a couple of good runs, a nice little nutmeg, and was a threat down that left-hand side. Hopefully, this is the spark he needs to get back to his best, because there’s so much talent in there.”
Alan Shearer agreed, adding:
“It has to be, Gaz. This is like the last chance saloon. He’s been given another opportunity at a top club with a great manager who wants to get the best out of him.”
What’s Next for Rashford at Villa?
With Ollie Watkins leading Villa’s attack, Rashford will have to fight for his place in the starting XI. However, if he continues to impress, he could revive his career and secure a permanent move to Villa Park this summer.
