Eddie Howe’s Update on Anthony Gordon’s Injury Ahead of Manchester City Match

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has given an update on Anthony Gordon’s injury ahead of Saturday’s crucial Premier League match against Manchester City. The England forward missed Newcastle’s 3-2 victory over Birmingham in the FA Cup on Saturday due to a thigh injury sustained during the team’s 2-0 win over Arsenal, which secured their place in the Carabao Cup final.

Gordon’s Recovery and Training Progress

Howe expressed confidence that Gordon would be available for the match at the Etihad Stadium, stating that the player’s thigh problem has responded well to treatment. “Anthony should be fine, he had a thigh problem but has responded well to treatment and has been training,” Howe confirmed in his Friday morning briefing.

Gordon’s potential return is crucial for Newcastle, as he is expected to play a key role in the team’s hopes of securing only their second-ever win at Manchester City’s home ground.

Sven Botman and Dan Burn’s Injury Concerns

There was also an update on the fitness of defenders Sven Botman and Dan Burn. Botman is a doubt for this weekend’s match but Howe provided some optimism, revealing that the injury was not long-term. “There has been good news on the scan for Sven after his injury, and it is not long-term. He will miss this weekend but hopefully won’t miss games in the next few weeks,” Howe said.

As for Dan Burn, his injury initially looked worrying, but after a positive scan result, he is now closer to making a return. Howe said, “For Dan, initially, it did not look positive. He’s had a scan, and it looks good; he is very close for this weekend.”

As Newcastle prepare to face the reigning Premier League champions, the recovery of Gordon and the possible return of Burn will be key to Howe’s plans for the important match.
