Curtis Jones Sends Clear Message to Arne Slot After Versatile Display

Liverpool Regain Momentum with Convincing Win

Liverpool produced a strong performance to beat Brighton 3-0 in the FA Cup fourth round, booking their place in the fifth round and keeping their hopes of silverware alive this season. Goals from Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah sealed the victory, while Milos Kerkez delivered one of his best displays in a Liverpool shirt.

The win comes at a time when the Reds have rediscovered their form after earlier struggles. Although they are out of the Premier League title race, Arne Slot’s side remain in contention for both the FA Cup — their first since 2022 — and the Champions League, where they sit near the top of their group ahead of the last 16.

The draw for the fifth round will take place on Monday, adding further excitement around Anfield as optimism builds once more.

Jones Embraces Any Role for the Team

One of the standout performers against Brighton was Curtis Jones, who impressed in an unfamiliar right-back position due to the club’s ongoing injury crisis. With regular right-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley sidelined, plus Wataru Endo’s brief stint in the role also cut short by injury, Slot turned to Jones to fill the gap.

The 25-year-old midfielder delivered a composed and effective performance, even getting on the scoresheet to help secure the win. After the match, Jones spoke to TNT Sports about his willingness to adapt for the good of the team.

“I say it all the time: I’m a footballer,” he explained. “Yeah, I’m a centre midfielder, and I want to score goals, and I want to assist, and I want to help the team. But if the manager needs me in the team and needs me to go and play as a centre-half, a full-back, a striker, I’ll go and do it, and I’ll try my best. Today I was in there as a full-back, and obviously I’ve scored and helped the team, so I’m happy.”

Jones has long expressed his ambition to spend his entire career at Liverpool and one day captain the side. His unselfish attitude and leadership on the pitch only strengthen his case, especially when the team faces defensive shortages.

Boost for Slot Amid Injury Concerns

The versatility shown by Jones provides Arne Slot with valuable options as Liverpool navigate a challenging period with multiple injuries in key areas. More appearances at right-back could follow if the natural choices remain unavailable.

For now, the focus shifts to maintaining momentum across competitions. With the FA Cup run continuing and Champions League progress on track, Jones’ flexibility and positive mindset send a strong message to Slot and the squad: the team is ready to adapt and fight for every trophy still in reach.
