Striker delighted to score and earn a point
Leeds forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin admitted he was thrilled to be on the scoresheet again, especially in a result that felt “great” for the team against Liverpool.
He told BBC Radio Leeds that seeing the ball hit the back of the net is always special, regardless of the opponent.
Performance dipped compared to Chelsea display
Calvert-Lewin accepted Leeds were not as “fluid” or effective as in their win over Chelsea, particularly in the first half.
He said the players knew Liverpool would react after the break, but nobody expected to be two goals down within five minutes of the restart.
Belief and mentality drove comeback
At 3-1 behind, Calvert-Lewin admitted the players felt they had made things “hard” for themselves.
However, he stressed that the team never lost faith, highlighting that “we had the belief and mentality that we could come back” and that this mentality showed in the final result.
Camaraderie and honesty key in tough moments
The striker pointed to the “day-to-day camaraderie” and shared values in the squad as foundations for their response.
He explained that during difficult spells the group must stick together and have honest conversations about where they need to improve, using that as a springboard to move forward.
