Russo commits future to Arsenal
England forward Alessia Russo has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal. The 26-year-old joined from Manchester United in 2023 and has since scored 36 goals in 72 appearances.
“Arsenal feels like home,” Russo said. “This is such a special club and it has felt that way from the moment I joined two years ago. Playing for Arsenal is an honour and has pushed me to develop and grow as a player.”
Russo helped the Gunners win the Champions League in May and also scored for England in the Euro 2025 final, where the Lionesses successfully defended their title.
Recent success and recognition
Last season, Russo netted 12 goals in 21 Women’s Super League matches, sharing the Golden Boot with Manchester City striker Khadija Shaw. Her form earned her a Ballon d’Or nomination and places in both the PFA Team of the Year and the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season.
Arsenal head coach Renee Slegers praised her impact: “Alessia’s goals often take the spotlight, but she brings so much more. She’s selfless, works incredibly hard for the team, and is a key figure in our culture.”
Russo expressed her ambition for more silverware: “I’m still so hungry for more success and I know that’s shared by everyone here at the club. I can’t wait to get started this season.”
